Overall Evaluation
-
A visit to Rumah Juara was organized by pre-medical society.
-There are 12 attendees, 1 committee members and 1 teacher advisors .
-2 Taylor’s College van were arranged to the destination.
-Items that were brought:( 1 ) Groceries .
( 2 ) 40 sets of party packs .

Achievements/milestones
- Interacting with the orphan to know more about them.
- Have a good relationship with the person in charge and the orphan.
- Entertaining the orphans with games .
- Hamper was sponsored as a gift for the orphans .


What we have learnt
- Share our time to company and communicate with the kids.
- Learn a lot to care about the others.
- Willingly help the others that need help.
- Understand the responsibility for being part of the community
.

Overall Evaluation

- A first aid training seminar organized by the Pre-Medical Society.
-
19 members attended, plus 3 excos.
-
It was exclusive for Pre-Medical Society members only.
-
Admission was free.
-
The speaker invited was Mr Murugan Naigu Panditha, the Hon. Secretary of PBSMM Selangor Branch.
- He had previously been very active in PBSMM, having been sent to countries such as Pakistan and Acheh to do relief and humanitarian works.
- He had previously been awarded the prestigious Tokoh Maulidur Rasul Award in the year 2006 and Young Humanitarian Award in 2007.
-
The seminar gave exposure to members on first aid skills, mainly on Cardio Pulmanory Resuscitation (CPR) and the recovery position.
-
Members were given a handout on CPR and a once in a lifetime chance to do CPR on a CPR dummy.
-
The speaker also gave motivational quotes to further encourage members to pursue their dreams of becoming future doctors.

- The speaker, who conducted the seminar for free, was given a token of appreciation sponsored by ECA at the end of the session.


Achievements/milestones

- Proceedings of seminar went smoothly.
-
Seminar was not boring, very interesting, interactive, hands on and very informative.
-
Members were taught on vital first aid knowledge that may make them as lifesavers one day.

What we have learnt

- The latest, up-to-date method of conducting CPR.
-
The recovery position of patients.
-
The importance of possessing first-aid skills.

date : 12TH JULY 2008
time : 3.00pm – 5.00pm

Overall Evaluation

- 35 copies of “LIFE OF A DOCTOR” were sold at cost price (RM 15)
- A total of 104 students and parents/visitors attended the event..
- Event was very well chaired by Ms. Lavnya Balenderan. (VP of society)
- A euthanasia video by 0801PM1 (CAL) was shown to let students ponder about medical ethics.
-Speaker shared about his personal experiences while in medical school, a junior doctor and a specialist. (work life, personal views, and quotes from other doctors).
- Students and parents responded very well in Q&A session.
- A souvenir was given to the speaker.


Achievements/ milestones
- The session was very interactive and informative.
- Overall, all students and visitors agreed that the talk gave a different perspective about the life of a doctor and a medical student.

What we have learnt
- Students and visitors now have a deeper understanding of the medical ethics, medicine as a career, the life of a doctor (career, income, personal life), and the life of a medical student ( subjects studied during MBBS and further post grad – specializing ).

- Arrival of students at LT3 on 3pm.
- There are 30 attendees including 5 EXCO members.
- Arrival of Professor Dr Mohamed Ikram, the Vice President of MERCY Malaysia.
- Short introduction to the speaker.
- Brief overview of MERCY and role of them in Malaysia.
- Experience shared by professor regarding guidelines and role of MERCY in charity event and worldwide disasters.
- Ways and pathway of MERCY in helping victims of disasters.
- A video is played to the students.
- The video generalized the community and history of MERCY, documentary of helping victims in countries such as Iraq, Myanmar and Indonesia.
- Souvenir is given to the Professor.
- Group pictures were taken in Lt3.

- Have a good relationship amongst member of Pre-Medical Society.
- Have a good relationship with Professor Dr Mohamed Ikram.
- Have a better understanding of role of NGO in a society.

Overall Evaluation

- A visit to Monash University Sunway Campus was organized by pre-medical society.
- There are 41 attendees and 2 committee members.
- Bus provided by Monash University were arranged to the destination.
- There is a campus tour lead by the person in charge of Monash.
- Group pictures were taken there.
- There is a short tea break.
- There is a short talk about the criteria and information about entering Monash and being a doctor.
- Interesting experience shared by Monash lecturer.

Achievements/milestones
- Have a good relationship amongst member of Pre-Medical Society.
- Have a good relationship with the person in charge of Monash University.
- Have a better understanding of being a doctor as well in terms of mentality, spirituality and physicality.
- Have a better understanding of the criteria for being a doctor in many aspects.
What we have learnt
- Working as a doctor needs passion as well as communication skills.
- Learn a lot to communicate amongst member.

Had enough of book bashing for the May/June exams?!
Well , time for a change. Back to the life saving action!
Pre-Med Society has got a few events lined up for you in July. (Other's will be posted later)

Here's a question.

Have your ever imagine yourself in scrubs? With a shiny stethoscope around your neck? Or perhaps, sharing a lift with Mc Dreamy or Mc Steamy?
Well, as promised, after rescheduling the event. Here's your chance to find out more at "Life As A Doctor"

The objectives of this event are simple and straight forward.

  • To promote the doctor's value amongst students
  • To expose members to medical ethics
  • To expose the students to medicine as a career

- A visit to Rumah Kanak-Kanak Impian was organized by pre-medical society.
- There are 11 attendees and 2 committee members.
- 3 student’s car were arranged to the destination.
- Items that were brought:( 1 ) 16 packs of chicken rice for the orphan.( 2 ) Cardboard,stationary for decoration.

Achievements/milestones
- Work together with the orphan to decorate a cardboard as their gift.
- Have a good relationship with the person in charge and the orphan.
- One of the members donated some old clothes and doll to the orphanage.



What we have learnt
- Share their time to company and communicate the kids.
- Learn a lot to care about the others.

- The session was very interactive and informative. Overall, the members agreed that the talk gave a different perspective on the issue AIDS.
- The attendance, although did not achieve the target of 90 people, still was overwhelming as 62 members attended the talk.

What we have learnt
- The members are now fully equipped with knowledge on the medical background of AIDS/HIVS.
- Members are aware of the issues surrounding the topic such as the stigma, statistics of AIDS/HIV in Malaysia, as well as the policies on AIDS.
- Members are now aware of their roles as future doctors in aiding the AIDS patients.

Achievements/ milestones
- The session was very interactive and informative. Overall, the volunteers were very satisfied.
- The feedback from the speaker was positive as he offered anyone of us who wanted to be trained as speakers or facilitators in the future.
- These volunteers will be taking part in the International AIDS Memorial Day 2008
What we have learnt
- The volunteers are now fully equip with knowledge on the medical background of AIDS/HIV as well as are aware of the issues surrounding the topic such as the stigma and efforts made by the Malaysian AIDS Council.
- Volunteers now understand the importance of giving commitment in this volunteering work.

The event was really interactive as the speaker was very very good and interesting. We had an ice-breakking session which was very interesting as he popped up questions that never did come up to our mind before this. The session was easy to understand as the speaker, Abang Zam, approached the topic of AIDS/HIV is a simple was as do students would find it easy to absorb. ALOT of questions were given, (a proof of how much we dont know about the topic) and ALOT of misconceptions were answered.

It was GREAT!!!
